New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on “dynastic politics”, saying it “is a big threat and the biggest enemy of democracy” and severely compromises on the talent that comes in a political party. In an exclusive interview with ANI, the Prime Minister elaborated on his “fake socialist” taunt at the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh and said that these parties are concerned about “familyism”.
45 family members in Samajwadi Party
PM Modi said that, “He had received a letter earlier in which it was said that there are 45 family members in the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh who are in different positions. The prime minister said the government was focusing on the welfare of the people and the BJP was of the view that “the government has no business to do business with”.
He said, “If you listen to our economic principles from the days of Jana Sangh, we have faith in the people, their abilities and the policies of the government should give them opportunities. We are making such policies that they get maximum opportunities. This is our idea. That the government has no business to do business with. How does this relate to socialism? It is against socialism”.
government’s job is to take care of the poor
Responding to a question about the BJP’s economic philosophy, the Prime Minister said, “The government’s job is to take care of the poor, ensure food, toilets, houses, clean drinking water, drinking water, roads for the people. The job of the government is to take care of the poor if they are sick. The job of the government is to see how small farmers’ produce reaches the markets. My priority is to make all this available. If someone calls it a socialist, it is acceptable to me.”

all leaders in yadav family
Taking a jibe at the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party, he said they insisted on “my family”. He said, “Someone once sent me a letter that there are 45 family members in Samajwadi Pari in Uttar Pradesh who are holding certain positions. Someone else told me that almost everyone in the age group of 25 got the opportunity to contest. Is this dynasty politics a threat to democracy?
Allegations of familialism in the BJP The prime minister said there is a difference between one or two people from a family getting tickets and winning elections and going to a particular family for all-important political positions in a party. He said that, “In dynastic parties there is a person in positions like president, chairman of the parliamentary board and if for some reason there is no father, the son takes his place.”
Giving examples, the Prime Minister said that, “The two political parties in Jammu and Kashmir practiced dynastic politics for decades.” He said that “dynastic politics is going on in the parties of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Tamil Nadu.”
The PM said, “The family runs the party, it is a big threat to democracy. Family-run parties are the biggest enemy of democracy as it denies basic norms. His aim is to save the family no matter what the benefit of the country.”
Dynastic politics prevents youth from entering
The Prime Minister said that the entry of more talent into public life is good for the country. He said, “The biggest loss in parties that save a family is talent. Democratization of political parties is important. Dynastic politics prevents youth from entering politics.”
He said, “When dynasty politics happens then family is paramount, save family, save party or not, save country or not, when this happens, what is the first casualty? Whoever the son is, he will be the party chief, so the biggest accident is talent.”
Young people are afraid to enter political life
PM Modi said that if a youth does not want to join BJP, then he has no option to go anywhere due to dynasty politics. “They (youth) feel that they will be used for some time and then abandoned. They think that if I work for them I will go along and if I work for the country, I will not survive in politics. The youth are scared to enter political life.”
PM Modi said that BJP is growing and youth are joining it because it is working in a democratic manner.
