Haldwani (Uttarakhand), Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated six projects costing over Rs 17,500 crore and laid the foundation stone of 17 projects, including the Lakhwar multi-purpose project, in Uttarakhand. The projects inaugurated by the Prime Minister include road widening projects, a hydroelectric project in Pithoragarh and a sewerage network in Nainital. The total cost of these projects is Rs 3,400 crore.

The projects he laid the foundation stone for include 17 projects related to several sectors including irrigation, roads, housing, health infrastructure, industries, sanitation, drinking water supply and their total cost is Rs 14,100 crore. The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of Lakhwar Multipurpose Project to be built at a cost of about Rs 5,750 crore and also inaugurated and laid foundation stones of several road projects worth Rs 8,700 crore.

Under the Lakhwar Multipurpose Project, a 204 meter high concrete dam is proposed to be built on the Yamuna river near Lohari village in Dehradun district. The project will generate 300 MW of electricity. Apart from these, he also laid the foundation stone of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Udham Singh Nagar, Satellite Center of Rishikesh and Jagjivan Ram Government Medical College in Pithoragarh.
The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for the construction of around 2,400 houses for the economically weaker sections in Sitarganj and Kashipur areas of Udham Singh Nagar district. These houses will be constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) at a total cost of over Rs 170 crore.(Agency)
