Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday 30 December inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of 23 projects costing over Rs 17,500 crore in Haldwani, Uttarakhand. The most important of these was the foundation stone laying of the Lakhwar Multipurpose Project, which was first conceived in 1976 and was pending for several decades. Under this project, it is proposed to build a 204 meter high concrete dam on Yamuna river in Dehradun district, which will generate 300 MW of electricity.

Along with this, the Prime Minister also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of projects related to many sectors including irrigation, housing, health infrastructure, industry, sanitation, drinking water supply.

Modi also addressed a program during this, in which he accused the previous Congress governments at the Center and Uttarakhand of neglecting Uttarakhand. He said that due to this the people were forced to migrate from their villages.
The prime minister also alleged that the previous government in the state was only interested in “plundering” Uttarakhand and had nothing to do with the state’s development.
Modi said that earlier governments have a history of hanging schemes. He said, “The Lakhwar project, which has started here in Uttarakhand today, has the same history. This project was first conceived in 1976. Today, after 46 years, our government has laid the foundation stone for its work. “
Interacting with the public, he asked, “It is a sin or not… it is a sin or not… such a crime and those who commit sin should be punished or not? Will you be confused?” The Prime Minister said that if we look at the record of his work for the last seven years, then it will be known that he is spending time in repairing these old things by searching.
He called upon the public, “I am working, you fix them (opposition).” He said that if the previous governments of Congress had been concerned about the people, would the Lakhwar project have been hanging for four decades. Without naming the Congress, he said, “Since independence, the people of Uttarakhand have seen two streams. One stream is to deprive the mountain of development and the other is to unite day and night for the development of the mountain. The first stream People always want to keep you out of development, keep running away from working hard to get roads, electricity and water to the mountains.”
