Meerut (Uttar Pradesh). Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday laid the foundation stone of ‘Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in Meerut’, the first sports university of Uttar Pradesh, in Meerut. The Prime Minister, who is on his first visit to Uttar Pradesh in the new year, laid the foundation stone of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in Salwa area of Meerut.

Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were also present on the occasion. A spokesperson of the state government said that Major Dhyan Chand Sports University with world-class state-of-the-art facilities will be built in an area of 91.38 acres and its construction is estimated to cost Rs 700 crore. In this university, 1,080 players can be trained simultaneously. In this, apart from various courses in sports, sports science and sports technology, training and research work will also be conducted.

Before laying the foundation stone of the university, the Prime Minister interacted with the players present at the venue. Apart from this, he visited the exhibition of sports products and also saw the model of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University. Earlier, Modi visited the Kali Paltan temple in Meerut and offered prayers there.
After this, he paid homage to the martyrs at the Amar Jawan Jyoti in the Shaheed Smarak Bhawan. Modi paid floral tributes at the statue of revolutionary Mangal Pandey, the first martyr of the first freedom struggle. He also visited the State Freedom Struggle Museum and visited the historical objects kept there.
