PM Modi and Sheikh Hasina Jointly Launched Passenger Train: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina on Saturday inaugurated the India-Bangladesh passenger train (Train Between India and Bangladesh) through a video conference. This train will connect New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal from the capital Dhaka. It is the third passenger train between the two neighboring countries after the Maitree Express (Dhaka-Kolkata) and Bandhan Express (Khulna-Kolkata).
PM Modi and Hasina jointly inaugurate this new passenger train called ‘Mitali Express’ through a video conference at 6.38 pm in the Prime Minister’s Office here in Tezgaon, according to the news of local news website Banglanews24. It has been said in the news that this new inter-country passenger train has been started on the occasion of the birth anniversary of ‘Bangabandhu’ Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the Golden Jubilee of the liberation struggle of Bangladesh.
Dhaka Cantonment-New will run till Jalpaiguri
The train will run between Dhaka Cantonment and New Jalpaiguri via Chilhati station in Bangladesh on the border. There is a distance of 453 km between Dhaka and Chilhati. At the same time, there is a 71 km distance between Chilhati and New Jalpaiguri. Foreign Secretary Harshvardhan Shringla told reporters that this train will start running when the situation becomes normal. Currently, both countries have suspended railway services due to the COVID-19 epidemic.
