Nagpur. For the past several days, the NDS squad of the Municipality is taking continuous action against those selling banned nylon manja and plastic kite curry. Despite this, there are many irresponsible shopkeepers in the city who are violating the rules and selling deadly manja and kite for their profit. Taking action against one such kite seller, the NDS squad of Municipal Corporation has seized a cache of plastic kites worth Rs 87 thousand. Under the guidance of squad chief Virsen Tambe, the team conducted guerilla action behind the Bengali Panja railway crossing late on Friday night. 8,100 plastic kites were found here, whose cost was said to be Rs 87,150.
The team had received secret information that a stock of banned plastic kites has been stored at the house of Mohammad Khan behind the railway crossing. With the help of Panchpavli police, the head of the squad, Sonone raided Khan’s house. This is the second time action has been taken against him. A fine of Rs 10,000 was also recovered from Khan. The moths were confiscated.
nylon manja sold in black
Here, vendors of banned nylon manja in the city are secretly selling in black. Irresponsible kite runners also ask for nylon manja from the shopkeepers. There are reports of nylon manja being sold to such customers at 3 times the price. Fearing squad action, the shopkeepers are hiding the nylon manja at other places and selling it secretly to trusted customers. On Saturday itself, in the city, a person got his throat slit after being hit by a nylon manja. Got 7 stitches and his life was saved. In the years before this, many people have been killed by nylon manja, yet its kite-flyers are not improving.
Citizens have demanded that strict action should be taken against those who fly kites with nylon manja. For this, the administration should issue a helpline number, in which the names of the complainants should also be guaranteed to be kept confidential. Public awareness should also be made to make citizens complain against those who fly kites with nylon manja. On the day of Makar Sankranti, 14 January, kite flying takes place on a large scale. Nylon also causes manja accidents.
