According to news agency PTI, this decision to cut VAT was taken by Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangaswamy in a cabinet meeting and according to the official press release it has been approved by Tamilisai Soundararajan, Lieutenant Governor of Union Territory of Puducherry. After this decision, now there is a relief of Rs 2.43 per liter in the price of petrol in Puduchuri and Karaikal region. In Puducherry, petrol is being sold at Rs 101.81 per liter and diesel at Rs 92.73 per liter today.

Tamil Nadu has already reduced tax on petrol
Before this decision of Puducherry, people in Tamil Nadu got some relief from expensive oil when the state government had reduced the tax of 3 rupees per liter of petrol. Tamil Nadu Finance Minister P Thyaga Rajan announced this in the state budget. This will put a burden of Rs 1,160 on the state exchequer of Tamil Nadu every year. Rajasthan has the highest VAT on Petrol-Diesel at 36 percent. 35 in Karnataka, 35.20 in Telangana and 32 per cent in Odisha, VAT is levied on petrol and diesel and in most states and union territories of the country, the price of petrol is beyond 100.
