Pimpri: The people of Bopkhel, who have been taking the long detour of Pimpri-Chinchwad or Pune for the last six years, will now get two new roads. Apart from the bridge over the Mula river from Bopkhel to Khadki, a nine meter road will be developed from Bopkhel to Dapodi and Bopkhel to Vishrantwadi under the Mula-Mutha river improvement project. People of Bopkhel will also be able to use this road. Deputy Mayor Hiranani Ghule said in a press release that as soon as the proposal is approved by the General Assembly, the work will be started by issuing its tender.
This will be the first road project to cross the river bank in the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation area. This road will be nine meters wide, which will provide an alternative route to the citizens of Bopkhel and save their time, money and fuel.

Deputy Mayor Ghule claimed that traffic jams would also be relieved. He said that the Mula river flows through Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad city limits. The length of the river from Wakad to Bopkhel is about 14.20 kms. This includes some of the army complexes at Pimple Nilakh and Dapodi CME. The Mula River Improvement Project in Pimpri Nagar area will be implemented jointly with the Pune Municipal Corporation.
Development of river bank will be done in a natural way
Since most of the Mula river in the Pimpri-Chinchwad border is natural, the riverfront development in this area will be done in a completely natural way. It will be possible to develop green belt along the river in the city development plan. The layout of the Municipal Corporation shows a nine-metre road along the river. A nine meter road will be developed on both sides of the river from Bopkhel to Dapodi and from Bopkhel to Vishrantwadi. This road is going to pass through the river basin. Since the road is outside the boundaries of the Department of Defense, permission from the Department of Defense will not be required, so the work will be done quickly. Deputy Mayor Hiranani Ghule said that the people of Bopkhel would get a nine-metre road from the river bank for transport.
PMC splits the project into 11 parts
Mula, Mutha river improvement projects are of extensive nature and are coming under Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, Khadki Cantonment Board, some defense lands. The Pune Municipal Corporation has divided the project into 11 parts in its area. Tenders were invited for some of them. Accordingly, the estimated cost for the year 2021-22 prepared by the Project Consultant for a length of 14.20 km within Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation limits is Rs.750 crores. Administrative approval will be given by the Standing Committee on the amount required for land acquisition under this project. Soon after that work will be started by issuing tender. The Mula river flows through Mayor Usha Dhore and Mere wards and both the wards will have nine meters of road along the river under river improvement projects. Deputy Mayor Ghule also said that administrative approval would be given to this work in the general body meeting.
