Pimpri : Sections of Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act on illegally parked and encroaching vehicles and encroachments on all footpaths and cycle tracks in Pimpri-Chinchwad City Encroachment squad and Dhadak squad should take penal action under 243-A (1), 208 and 392 (1), this order has been given by Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Rajesh Patil to Encroachment Department and Encroachment Inspector.
The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation is responsible for providing footpaths and cycle trucks for use by the citizens. However, citizens park their vehicles illegally/encroached upon most of the city’s footpaths and cycle tracks. It has been observed that due to such practices citizens are finding it difficult to walk on footpaths and cycle on cycle tracks. Therefore, it is necessary to remove encroachments by taking action against illegally parked vehicles on footpaths and cycle tracks.

Vehicles parked on or near public roads or certain public roads may pose a danger to pedestrians. As per section 208 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, such vehicles shall be towed or transferred and in accordance with section 243A(1) such vehicles shall be parked at such places as may be deemed fit by the Municipal Commissioner.
Encroachment on roads within municipal limits
The Commissioner has the power and authority to levy fees or charges in this regard. Also, in case of contravention or non-compliance of the provisions of section 243A(1) and section 208 under section 392(1) of the Municipal Corporation Act, the Municipal Commissioner has the power and authority to punish for any such offence. Action is being taken against vehicles encroaching on roads, impounding vehicles and doing similar work within the municipal limits.
Instructions to encroachment inspectors of all regional offices
Accordingly, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, as per the provisions of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, orders have been issued to take action against all types of encroachment vehicles on the footpaths on all the roads of the Municipal Corporation and deposit the fine amount. Accordingly, Encroachment Inspectors of all field offices have been directed to take action through Dhadak squads under the control of field officers to ensure that all footpaths in the area under their jurisdiction are safe and in good condition. It has also been said in the order that punitive action should be taken against the places where vehicles are parked or encroached on the footpath and its report should be submitted to the commissioner’s office along with the city engineer (encroachment).
