Shahida’s concern for her husband was increasing by watching videos of protesters on TV. Shahida said that she made several calls to the given phone number but no concrete information was found about her husband.

When her husband did not pick up her phone even after Shahida’s repeated calls, she was not worried. Shahida’s husband did not turn back and called her. Still he was not surprised because this was not the first time in six years of marriage, Shahida’s husband Ali Ahmed should not have returned from duty on time. Ali Ahmed, an employee of the Pakistan Police, often worked long hours.
However, Shahida got worried when a neighbor told him about the violent clash between the police and the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan protesters. There were reports that protesters gathered at Chowk Yatim Khana and blocked traffic on Multan Road to protest the arrest of its leader Saad Rizvi.
Land slipped under Shahida’s feet
According to ‘The Dawn’ report, Shahida’s nervousness increased when a woman from the neighborhood showed her the video clips that were going viral on social media, in which the protesters were seen beating some policemen. About 10 o’clock in the night there was a knock at the door and both the daughters of Shahida ran towards the door waiting for their father. The girls, after seeing two policemen at their father’s place at the door, told Shahida that some friends of Baba Jani had come to the door.
Hearing what the policemen told Shahida, the ground would be slipped under the feet of a wife, even after more than 14 hours had elapsed since Shahida approached her husband. Policemen said her husband, along with some colleagues, was abducted and taken hostage by protesters while he was doing duty at Chowk Yatim Khana. He informed that efforts are on to release him. For further information, Shahida was given a phone number.
Ahmad returned with blood at 2 pm
Shahida’s anxiety and nervousness was increasing after watching the footage of the performance on TV. According to the report, Shahida said that she called the phone number given but no concrete information was found about her husband. At around 2 pm, an official told that Ahmed and other colleagues have been rescued and doctors are examining and treating them.
Shahida told ‘Don’ that my husband was brought home for two hours. A bandage was tied around his head. He was walking with the help of his colleagues and was in a lot of pain. My daughters started crying and hugged them. When I removed his blood-soaked shirt, I noticed that there were wounds all over his body. He was brutally tortured in captivity.

Ahmed told that I was doing duty elsewhere when I received an order to reach Samanabad on wireless. The area where Rahmatul Leel Alameen Madrasa, Labbak Headquarters, was located. Upon reaching there, we were asked to wear anti-riot gear as we had to remove protesters and clear the traffic. Ahmed said that he was unarmed.
They told that the protesters seemed ready in advance. As soon as we fired tear gas shells to disperse them, they started throwing smokeballs at us. A ball fell near my feet and I felt as if the smell of gas had filled my nose. I ran towards the washroom of a closed petrol pump and splashed water on my eyes and face. During this time, a contingent of 100 policemen were shattered and all the people started fleeing. The protesters were chasing the policemen, with whom the locals joined, carrying bricks and iron bars.
Government should talk
He said that to save his life he and his companions entered a house and locked the door from inside but the protesters surrounded the door from outside and started beating. The house owner panicked and opened the door and handed us over to the protesters, who took us to their headquarters.
Ahmed saw the bodies of the youth in the madrasa who were killed during the struggle. The policemen were tortured by the protesters. Ahmed said that the last condition of the protesters for the release of security personnel was that some senior officers should be present on this occasion. One of the protesters said that if something bad happens to you after being liberated from our side, then we should not be blamed. Ahmed says that the government should reconcile with the protesters. Some police officers feel the same.
