- Transactions worth crores stalled, rally taken out
Wardha. The Central Government is taking steps towards privatization of state-owned banks by amending the Act of Banking Regulation Act 1970-80. The United Forum of Bank Unions has decided to strike for two days to protest against the decision being taken. More than 1 thousand employees of 131 banks of the district have participated in the strike on 16th and 17th December.
On Thursday, a rally was taken out from the Vidarbha zonal office of BOI to the main branch of SBI, during which the workers made a strong announcement and drew the attention of the government. These industrialists will remain the same who have kept loans of lakhs and crores of banks outstanding, instead of recovering the said loan, the government is giving them exemption.
Government should take appropriate steps keeping in mind the public interest
Bank employees have opposed the policy of privatization of banks, if privatization happens, all the welfare schemes of the government, Jan Dhan Yojana, student scholarship, crop insurance, baseless pension etc. will be affected. The branch of rural, neem urban area has to be closed, small businessmen, jobseekers will not get loans conveniently. Keeping in mind the interest of the common people, there is a demand from the central government to take appropriate steps. Bank employees expressed their dissatisfaction, fiercely opposing the policy of the central government by showing placards of announcements.
Customers returned disappointed on Thursday
Due to lack of information about the two-day strike, many customers reached the banks on Thursday, but after coming to know about the strike, they returned disappointed.
Banks will remain closed till Sunday
Bank employees have decided to go on strike for two days on 16th and 17th December, after which all the banks will remain closed for four consecutive days from Saturday and Sunday. As a result, citizens of urban and rural areas will not be able to do bank related transactions, as a result bank customers are expressing anger, meanwhile only online transactions will be more in number.
