Belagavi. The Karnataka Assembly on Monday unanimously passed a resolution condemning the recent incidents of defacement of statues of Shivaji Maharaj and Sangoli Rayanna and burning of the Kannada flag, saying such incidents would be treated as sedition and those involved would be punished as “goondas”. Strict action will be taken under the Act”.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, who moved the resolution, made it clear that there was no question of leaving an inch of Karnataka’s border. He said that if some parts of Maharashtra want to join Kannada state and a resolution should be passed in this regard, then his government is ready for it. He also announced that a statue of freedom fighters Kittur Chennamma and Sangoli Rayanna would be installed at Suvarna Vidhana Soudha here.
Bommai said, “The government has a clear stand that the Mahajan report on the border issue is final, yet some individuals and organizations are repeatedly disturbing the peace and this is condemnable. This House unanimously condemns such acts and decides to punish the miscreants involved.”
Reading out the motion after his reply during a discussion on the issue in the assembly, he said, “condemns the defacement of the statues of Sangoli Rayanna and Shivaji Maharaj, burning of Kannada flag, insulting Jagajyothi Basaveshwara in the House Hall.” And such incidents will be considered as an act of sedition and strict action will be taken against those involved as per law. Bommai said the details of these incidents would be brought to the notice of the Union Home Ministry.
The Chief Minister said, “Karnataka government wants cordial relations between the two states (with Maharashtra), but due to such mischievous activities there is a breach of peace and there is a need to control such mischievous activities outside the boundaries of the state as well. Is.”
After the motion was introduced by the Chief Minister, Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri put it for vote and it was accepted unanimously. Incidents of throwing ink on a leader of the Maharashtra Integration Committee (MES), burning of the Karnataka flag in Maharashtra’s Kolhapur and defacing the statues of Shivaji Maharaj and Sangoli Rayanna had sparked anger in the border district of Belagavi.
Maharashtra claims that this district belongs to it. Earlier during his reply, Bommai said that Belagavi is an important border area. The region is well equipped with all the necessary resources for investment and has strategic importance. Any attempt to create instability through violence is condemnable. Bommai alleged that Maharashtra was trying to keep the border dispute alive despite repeated Mahajan reports for politics.
An attempt has been made to create linguistic tension over the issue, which also led to the formation of Maharashtra Integration Committee (MES), he said. The Chief Minister said, “Belagavi is the second power center of Karnataka and as long as the sun and the moon are there, it will be a part of Karnataka and Kannada. Suvarna Vidhana Soudha is proof of this. There can be no compromise on this.” (agency)
