Patel (Delhi High Court Chief Justice DN Patel) on Friday said there is nothing wrong in judges being pro-government or anti-government as they may have different perspectives and views on the issues before them and this will lead to development of law. it happens.

Yamurti Patel will be relieved of the charge of Chief Justice of Delhi High Court on 12 March on attaining the age of 62 years. The Supreme Court judges in the country retire at the age of 65, while the High Court judges retire at the age of 62.
In his farewell ceremony organized by the High Court, the Chief Justice said that judges are only interpreters of the law, they are not law makers or policy makers and it is necessary to strike a balance between judicial activism and judicial restraint.
“Whenever there is a distinction between law and justice, judicial activism is required as an exception and it cannot be a ‘matter of role’,” Justice Patel said.
“(Law-making) rests with Parliament and in the absence of law, policy-making is with the executive… Therefore a balance must be struck between judicial activism and judicial restraint,” Justice said.
