NASA DART Mission: There are some news related to space, which sounds very exciting to hear. Whenever it is said that an asteroid is going to hit the earth, the fear and curiosity in the people about it is more visible. But now the US space agency NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) is going to solve the problem related to asteroids. This is a mission that seems far better than a film story. Scientists have prepared a project, with the help of which asteroids will be prevented from coming towards the Earth. This project has been named Double Asteroid Redirection Test.
Several NASA centers are working on this project, including the John Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab. This special technique related to space also includes ‘Kinetic Impactor’ technique. Through which the speed of the asteroid in space will be changed. Explaining the project in detail on its website, NASA has said, “Dart is a test of technologies related to planetary defense, so that the Earth can be saved from the effects of any dangerous asteroid.” Put simply, the purpose of this mission is to change the direction of the dreaded asteroid coming towards the Earth.
Asteroid will hit an asteroid
For this, NASA has also prepared a spacecraft. Which will change its direction after hitting the asteroid coming at a speed of 6.6 kilometers per second. It will be small enough to change the speed of the orbit from the asteroid, but it can prevent the asteroid from coming towards the Earth (NASA DART Mission Launch Date). The mission is planned to be launched in July this year, with the help of the Falcon rocket of SpaceX, the company of the world’s richest man Elon Musk. In this mission, Asteroid Didymos and his little Moonlet will be interrupted.
Aim to pass near the earth
Both these asteroids are not considered to be a big threat to the earth, but the purpose of the dart mission is to pass them near the earth. NASA’s spacecraft will first hit a small moonlet and as soon as the Didymos system is within the radius of 11 million kilometers of our planet, it can be inspected by telescopes and radars, which will be detected by the spacecraft (NASA DART Mission Dart). What is the effect on its velocity and orbit. Scientists believe that this collision will change the speed of the moonlet and at the same time there will be a change of several minutes in the orbit period around the large asteroid.
First test of this kind
Speaking to a media platform, part of DART’s Investigation Team and APL Astronomer Ant Winkin said, “We don’t have much choice yet if something is coming towards Earth (NASA DART Mission in Hindi) what should be done. In such a situation, DART is the first test in which we can defend anything without resorting to the nuclear package, sitting in our basement, waiting and crossing our fingers. Although earlier scientists have said that nuclear weapons can prevent the asteroid from coming to Earth, but this is not a good idea.
