Navi Mumbai : Some people living in Sector 16, 16 A, 18, Sarsole and adjoining areas of Nerul Department had connected the pipeline to the Municipal Corporation’s water duct. The work of drawing water from this pipeline was being done by these people with the help of booster pump, due to which the water supply was being done at low pressure in the houses of other people living in the said area, on receiving the complaint. The work of cutting the pipeline connected to the booster pump and confiscation of the pump has been done in 4 houses of the said area by the concerned department of the Municipal Corporation.
Significantly, the Municipal Corporation supplies 450 MLD of water to its area every day from its owned Morbe Reservoir. There is plenty of water in the reservoir in Morbe, which has a water storage capacity of 88 meters, yet there are complaints of low pressure water supply in Sector-16, 16A, 18, Sarasole and surrounding areas under the Nerul Department of the Municipal Corporation. Municipal commissioner Abhijit Bangar was getting, taking which seriously, the municipal commissioner Bangar directed the concerned department of the municipal corporation to find out the reasons for the low pressure water supply.

Booster pump detected during investigation
Following the instructions of the Municipal Commissioner, the officers and employees associated with the water supply department of the Nerul Department of the Municipal Corporation started the tap connection checking campaign in Sector-16, 16A, 18, Sarasole and surrounding areas of Nerul. During this campaign it was found that out of the houses where water is being supplied directly by the Municipal Corporation, some people themselves have installed booster pumps by connecting additional pipelines to the aqueducts to take maximum advantage of the water, due to which the said area Artificial water crisis has arisen in To overcome this, the action of cutting the pipe attached to the aqueduct and confiscating the booster pump was taken by the concerned department of the Municipal Corporation.
In the villages of the municipal area, people have built 2- to 3-storey buildings in place of old houses, shops have also been built in such buildings, due to which residents are using water commercially. Due to this, the Municipal Corporation is suffering financial loss. Even in slums, some people are making their huts single storey, such people are doing commercial work in the ground floor. Keeping all these things in mind, independent water charges have been implemented in the villages and slums of the municipal area. With this, where people will get water according to their need, the income of the Municipal Corporation will also increase.

Improvements being made in the water distribution system
Significantly, an important decision has been taken by the Municipal Commissioner Bangar to improve the water distribution system in the slums and villages under the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation and to prevent theft of water. At present, water supply is being done in the above areas from the old aqueduct, which is being used by more than 1 family, due to which the water pressure is reduced, the decision to replace such old water channel with a larger diameter water channel. Municipal commissioner Bangar has taken. Along with this, free water charges have also been fixed for the tap connection holders of the above areas.
