Mumbai: On Gudi Padwa, Mumbaikars got the gift of the second metro. On Saturday, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray flagged off the operation of the first phase of the much-awaited Metro 2A and 7. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde, Environment Minister Aditya Thackeray, Industries Minister Subhash Desai, Guardian Minister Ashlam Sheikh, Chief Secretary Manukumar Srivastava, MMRDA commissioner SVR Srinivas, former commissioner RA Rajiv along with Chief Minister Thackeray at the inauguration ceremony held at Aarey station of Metro. Several senior officers were present.
Addressing the function after the launch, Chief Minister Thackeray said that we do not need to take credit for any work. Our government is doing its job. All credit goes to Mumbaikars. CM said that I have also traveled in tram and local. As the Metro network is expanding, by 2031, 10 million people will get comfortable travel by Metro.

4 lakh crore for infrastructure: Deputy Chief Minister
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said that the state government is giving maximum emphasis on infrastructure. In the next 3 years, Rs 4 lakh crore will be spent on infrastructure development. Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde said that 337 kilometer metro work is being done in Mumbai MMR. Integrated ticketing system will be implemented in future.
CM took metro journey
After inaugurating Metro 2A and 7 on Saturday, the CM along with his fellow ministers traveled by metro from Aarey to Kurar station.
Passenger operations from 8 pm
MMRDA commissioner SVR Srinivas said that the journey service started from 8 pm on Saturday. There is a lot of enthusiasm among the commuters about this metro. At present, it has been decided to run the metro at a speed of 70 km. Later the speed will be increased to 80 kmph. In the first phase, the metro has started running between a total of 18 stations.
Metro will be available in 11 minutes
Metro train will be available at the frequency of 11 minutes. Presently 11 metro rakes are available. Up to 20 rakes will be available in the coming one year. With the increase in the number of trains, there will be an increase in service and frequency. Metro is a communication based train (CBTC) system equipped with state-of-the-art technology. The train is of driverless technology, yet there will be drivers.
first box for women
MMRDA has appointed 60 drivers including 10 women for the operations. Separate arrangements have been made for handicapped and women. The first coach of the train has been reserved for female passengers. Separate seat for Divyang is available in each coach.
time table launch
On Saturday, CM Uddhav Thackeray inaugurated the time table of Metro 2A and 7. Metro will run from 6 am to 10 pm. Platform screen doors have been installed for the safety of the passengers. Due to this no one can fall from the platform to the track.
