Mumbai. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) recovered amphetamine, opium and zolpidem tablets in different quantities from different places in suburban Andheri and south Mumbai and arrested a citizen of Ivory Coast in this connection.
An official said on Tuesday that the banned material, worth Rs 13 crore, was seized in the last four days, which was to be smuggled by air by narcotics gang members to Australia, Maldives, Dubai, the US, New Zealand and Switzerland.
During the raid, the Federal Anti-Drugs Agency seized 2.296 kg of amphetamine, 3.906 kg of opium and 2.525 kg of zolpidem tablets, he said. He said that NCB suspects role of personnel of some air courier companies in this business.
Along with this, 941 grams of amphetamine drug has been seized, it was going to Australia. The operation was led by Mumbai NCB regional director Sameer Wankhede and raids were conducted at eight locations in Mumbai. According to the official, the NCB team seized 490 grams of amphetamine hidden in a stethoscope in Andheri (East) on Friday, which was brought by canoe in South Mumbai and was to be sent to Australia. A citizen of Ivory Coast has been arrested by NCB in this connection.
