Pimpri: A total of 4,590 CCTV cameras have been installed in the busy markets, parks, offices and hospitals of Pimpri-Chinchwad. A total of 3,000 up-to-date CCTV cameras will be installed in 640 more squares of the city on the demand of police, citizens and corporators. After this the entire city will be under the surveillance of CCTV cameras. Rs 178 crore 48 lakh will be spent for this. The Standing Committee also approved an expenditure of Rs 207.74 crore on various development works to be implemented by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation.
The meeting of the Standing Committee was held in Pimpri, the main administrative building of the Municipal Corporation. The meeting was presided over by Ed. Nitin Landge. In the budget of 2021-22, the city council has approved a budget of Rs 200 crore for CCTV surveillance project. Keeping in view the demand of police force, citizens and corporators for CCTV surveillance work, priority will be given to complete the work of CCTV system at a cost of Rs.178.48 crore. For the security and law and order of the city, CCTVs are being installed by the Municipal Corporation at various places in the city. The Municipal Corporation has so far installed 2,200 cameras in the city, while the State Home Department has installed 297 cameras in 88 squares.

Final list of 640 squares drawn
The Pimpri-Chinchwad Smart City Limited along with the Municipal Corporation and the state government have installed a total of 2,093 cameras in 430 squares. Police and municipal engineers inspected the squares and finalized a list of 1,440 squares. Accordingly, a final list of 640 squares has been prepared out of 80 squares in the boundary of each field office. A total of three thousand CCTV cameras will be installed there. Tenkosis Security System and Matrix Security & Surveillance qualified in its tender process.

The cameras will be installed under the control system by the Municipal Corporation through command and control established under Smart City in Nigdi. The camera has a capacity of 4 mega pixels and it can be shot even in the dark. Pimpri-Chinchwad is the first municipal corporation in the country to have installed CCTV cameras using state-of-the-art technology, which will be completed within a year. This claim has been made by the Telecom Department of the Municipal Corporation.
