Mumbai. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Monday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi failed to make the river Ganga clean and clear. He said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would lose at least four of the five assembly seats in his Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency in the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. The Prime Minister’s criticism by the NCP came on the day he inaugurated Kashi Vishwanath Dham in Varanasi and also witnessed the ‘Ganga Aarti’ there.
Talking to reporters here, Maharashtra minister and NCP national spokesperson Nawab Malik recalled that Modi had said before the 2014 general elections that Maa Ganga had called him to contest from Varanasi. This thing of his became very famous.
Malik alleged, “It has been seven and a half years now… but the Modi government has not been able to answer what happened to the Ganga river cleaning campaign in all these years?” He said some of the ministers responsible for cleaning the river Ganga were replaced during this period, but the mission to clean the river remained “unfinished”.
