Mumbai: The RDSO trial run of the first phase of Mumbai Metropolitan Development Authority’s Metro Line-7 and 2A (Metro-7 and 2) has been completed. MMRDA, under the Ministry of Railways, Government of India, has completed a successful trial run meeting the standards of Research Design and Standards Organization (RDSO).
Now soon the first phase of 20 km route from Aarey to Dahisar East and then Dahisar Dhanukarwadi will start operating. Metro can be started for the common people after getting the final certificate from the Railway Safety Board.
90% civil work completed
It is reported that about 90 percent civil work of Metro 2A and 7 has been completed. The work of the stations is in the final stage. The commercial operations in the first phase are expected to start from January 2022. Earlier it was targeted to be launched for the general public in October 2021. Commissioner SVR Srinivas is constantly reviewing the work of Metro.

Operating with 10 Metro Rakes
MMRDA will start commercial operations on both the corridors with 10 trains, of which two have arrived. Metro 2A is 17.5 km long, while Metro 7 has a length of 18.6 km. According to MMRDA, around 90 per cent of the civil works for both the lines have been completed. It was told that 10 train sets would be available by January. After this, two rakes will be available every month. The 6-coach rake can also function as a driverless metro. The 6 car train set has a carrying capacity of 2,280 passengers.
Swadeshi Metro
The upcoming rakes of Mumbai Metro are indigenously built driverless trains, which will operate on 25 KV AC traction power. Each coach is equipped with CCTV surveillance, optical fiber with internet. Designed on energy conservation and alternative non-conventional energy ie electricity saving technology.
378 coach order
MMRDA had placed an order for 378 coaches in November 2018 for Rs 3,015 crore. Subsequently, the authority has ordered 12 more trains of 6 coaches each for Line 2B (DN Nagar-Mankhurd), 7A and 9 (Dahisar-Mira-Bhayander).
Commissioner’s visit
Meanwhile, Metropolitan Commissioner SVR Srinivas visited the Metro Line-7 site to review the ongoing project works. According to Srinivas, after getting the certificate of RDSO, the process of conducting the first phase will be started soon.
