Because of lightning-sparked wildfires, evacuations have been ordered in a number of Northern California communities. The standing as of Thursday, Aug. 17:
1/ Del Norte County. Ten fires within the Smith River Complex stay energetic and have burned greater than 1,500 acres. Evacuations had been ordered for residents within the areas of Patrick Creek, Little Jones Creek, Copper Creek drainage and Coon Creek. A 20-mile stretch of Highway 199 east of Gasquet is closed. 2/ Siskiyou County. The Head Fire, at greater than 3,500 acres, is the biggest of 20 lightning-sparked fires within the Klamath National Forest. Evacuations have been ordered for a 335-square-mile space west of Yreka (extra detailed map and assets right here). More data: sheriff’s Facebook.
