Harvest: Nine laborers working in an under-construction tunnel near Slimnabad in Madhya Pradesh’s Katni district suddenly collapsed, out of which seven laborers have been rescued till Sunday morning while efforts are on to rescue two people. . Officials said that the incident happened late on Saturday night during the construction work of underground canal under Bargi Canal Project. He said that six of the rescued laborers were taken to the Katni district hospital, located about 30 km from the spot, by making a ‘green corridor’.
Rajesh Rajora, Additional Principal Secretary, Madhya Pradesh Home Department told ‘Bhasha’ that seven laborers have been taken out safely so far. They are all out of danger and recovering. He said that two laborers Gorelal Kol and Ravi (supervisor) are still trapped in the tunnel and both of them could not be contacted. He said that the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are trying their best to rescue these two laborers trapped in the tunnel.

Rajora said that he is monitoring the rescue work round the clock from the room located at Vallabh Bhawan in Bhopal. Slimnabad Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) SM Gautam and Sub-Divisional Officer Police (Slimanabad) Monika Tiwari said that the trapped laborers are also alive and efforts are on to rescue them. Additional Superintendent of Police Manoj Kedia told PTI from the spot that out of the seven laborers rescued since night, six have been admitted to the district hospital, Katni.
He said he was taken to the hospital in 25 minutes via the ‘Green Corridor’. Kedia said that another laborer who was rescued is in a state of shock. He is being given first aid and consolation is being given near the tunnel.
He said that after being pulled out of the rubble, the rescued laborers were given initial treatment at the spot for about 30 minutes in a special ambulance equipped with modern facilities and were later taken to the district hospital. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan spoke to Katni District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police about the incident. Rajora said that Chouhan has directed the officials to make proper arrangements for the treatment of the injured laborers. (agency)
