Aurangabad: Electric vehicle charging stations are being set up in the state to promote the use of electric vehicles. Mahavitaran has appealed to the interested citizens and organizations to apply for these stations. With the aim of adopting pollution free vehicles, the central and state governments have announced an electric vehicle policy. Accordingly, the government is encouraging the establishment of infrastructure for manufacturing, selling and charging stations for electric vehicles.
The state government is promoting the basic demand for electric vehicles in terms of battery capacity. 10 thousand for e-two-wheeler, 30 thousand for e-three-wheeler auto and goods vehicle, 1 lakh 50 thousand for e-four-wheeler, 1 lakh for e-wheeler goods vehicle, ST e-buses 20 lakhs, as well as under the Electric Vehicle Policy, the government has approved the extension of the accelerated registration exemption limit till 31st December 2021 till 31st March 2022.
Purchase of electric vehicles mandatory for local bodies
In addition, purchase of electric vehicles has been made mandatory for government and semi-government bodies as well as local bodies with effect from January 1, 2022. The government has decided that from April 1, 2022, all vehicles taken on lease for government use will be battery based. Those who register the electric vehicle before March 31, 2022 will get an instant registration discount of Rs 5,000 depending on the battery capacity. This exemption will be given in addition to the basic demand incentive. The maximum Tatkal registration exemption will be Rs 1 lakh. This will increase the tendency of citizens to use electric vehicles. Hence the need for electric vehicle charging stations.

The main objective of the Maharashtra Electric Vehicle Policy is to increase the use of electric vehicles, so that by 2025, battery electric vehicles constitute 10% of new vehicle registrations. By 2025, the six polluted cities of Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Amravati, Aurangabad and Nashik will have at least 25 per cent public vehicles, TAFA operators, TAFA groups and consumer delivery goods vehicles. Also, at least 15 per cent of ST’s fleet will be electric vehicles. Use of electric vehicles will curb pollution in these six cities. The work on Nagpur-Mumbai Samridhi Highway is also nearing completion.
Can be set up charging stations
This highway passing through various districts of Vidarbha, Marathwada and Western Maharashtra has ample potential for setting up of charging stations at various places. The use of electric vehicles will be mandatory for visiting Ajanta and Ellora caves, world heritage sites and tourist attractions around the world. Hence charging stations can be set up in this area as well.
Possibilities of setting up vehicle charging stations in open space
The State Government has appointed Mahavitaran as the State Nodal Agency (State Coordinating Body) for this purpose. Some private entities, including Mahavitaran, have already set up select electric vehicle charging stations in the state. However, with the increasing use of electric vehicles, there will be a need for a large number of electric vehicle charging stations. Marathwada also has immense potential for setting up of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations in open spaces of hotels, petrol pumps and other establishments along highways as well as at important places of the city. The state government will provide incentives for setting up public electric charging stations.
