Thane (Maharashtra): An unidentified fraudster in Maharashtra allegedly asked a 53-year-old man to download an app on his mobile phone and from his bank account after asking him to share confidential information. 9.53 lakhs withdrawn.
Police said on Monday that a resident of Badlapur area, who was working in a private company after retiring from the Navy, told the police that the mobile app of the nationalized bank with which he had an account was not working, so he asked for it. Contacted ‘Customer Care Desk’ and complained about this. Then again the victim got a call from a person, who posed as an executive of the customer care cell, asking him to download the ‘AnyDesk’ app, an official of Badlapur (West) police station said.

On phone he gave them some instructions and also asked for some information about their bank account. He later said that his ‘user id’ and ‘password’ have been changed and he can use the app. Subsequently, on January 24, he received a message from the bank that the mobile number registered with his account had been changed.
The official said that when he went to the bank to inquire about it, he was told that an amount of Rs 9,53,363 had been transferred from his account to another account. After this he complained the matter to the police. He said that the police on Sunday registered a case against the unidentified person under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code and provisions of the Information Technology Act.
