New Delhi: A Maharashtra-based NGO (NGO) is in the process of adopting the ancestral village of General Bipin Rawat, India’s first Chief of Defense Staff (CDS). Earlier this month, CDS Rawat died in a helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu.
Dr. Harivansh Rai Bachchan Prabodhan Pratishthan (HBPP) of Latur has been given permission by Pauri Garhwal (Uttarakhand) district administration to carry out development activities in Sain village which lacks proper road connectivity. HBPP founder Nivruti Yadav said that a visit to Sain village would be taken next week to understand the topography and plan for development activities there.

He told PTI that the HBPP will use its own resources and seek help from the government to open health and education institutions, build roads and also contact farmers. Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat said that the process of adoption of the village by HBPP has gained momentum.
He informed that the representatives of the NGO will reach Sain village and prepare a draft plan of the development activities to be done there. The former Chief Minister said that he had written a letter to the District Magistrate to apprise him of HBPP’s intention to do development work in the village.
District Magistrate Vijay Kumar Jogbande, in a letter to the HBPP founder, said, “…You are allowed to carry out development activities as per rules, in Sain, Pauri Garhwal, the native village of General Bipin Rawat, the brave son of the nation. According to Yadav, HBPP had also sent relief material during the Kedarnath floods in 2013. (agency)
