Nagpur: Local Congress workers demonstrated outside Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s house on Thursday, demanding an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Congress alleges that the Prime Minister has “insulted” Maharashtra by allegedly indicating in Parliament that it (Maharashtra) is responsible for the spread of COVID-19 in other states. A large number of security personnel were deployed outside Gadkari’s house on Wardha Road in view of the protest.
Nagpur is the hometown of the senior BJP leader. He is currently in Delhi. Local Congress MLA Vikas Thackeray and other party workers raised slogans against Prime Minister Modi during the protest, calling him “anti-Maharashtra”. BJP workers also gathered outside Gadkari’s house to counter the Congress’s protest.

Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole had said on Wednesday that his party would continue the protest till Prime Minister Modi apologized to the people of the state. During the debate in the Lok Sabha on Monday, the Prime Minister had said that the Congress had “crossed all limits” during the COVID-19 pandemic.
He had alleged that during the first wave, when people were following the lockdown and COVID-19 guidelines, Congress leaders were standing at railway stations in Mumbai intimidating workers so that they could go to their respective home states. . (agency)
