Aurangabad/MaharashtraActivists of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) in Beed city of Maharashtra put up banners in support of Hijab for Muslim girl students and said that the Indian Constitution gives citizens the right to follow their religious culture. . Banners carrying the message of ‘first hijab then kitab’ were put up in Beed’s Bashirganj and Karanja areas on Monday and were removed on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, party’s state unit president and Lok Sabha member Imtiaz Jaleel appealed to non-Muslim women to wear ‘hijab’ as a protest to show solidarity with the cause. Beed city police station inspector Ravi Sanap told PTI on Wednesday, “The situation in Beed is peaceful. We told them (workers) that they had put up banners without permission. They agreed and the banners were removed.”

Luqman Farooqui, a member of AIMIM’s student wing in Beed, said that the Indian Constitution gives every person the right to follow his/her religious culture and those who oppose the hijab should read the constitution. “That’s why we put up banners in support of hijab in Beed for a day to spread this message,” he said.
Jalil, who represents Aurangabad Lok Sabha constituency, said on Twitter on Wednesday, “(I) request my non-Muslim sisters to come along and wear hijab to register their protest. It will be a tough slap on those elements who want to create division among friends in schools and colleges. Unity in diversity is the beauty of India.” (agency)
