Nagpur. All 9 unions of banks under the banner of UFBA have announced a 2-day strike. On the first day on Thursday, the strike got good response in Vidarbha. There was no work in 350 branches and about 13,000 employees and officers did not go to work. The business of about Rs 2,800 crore was affected in a single day due to the closure of the bank. In Nagpur too, the branches of most of the public sector banks remained locked throughout the day.
Employees are on strike to show their protest against the NDA government’s initiative to privatize 2 nationalized banks and amend the banking bill and policies.
A demonstration was organized in front of State Bank of India, Kingsway on Thursday. Suresh Bobhate, Joint Convener, UFBU Nagpur Chapter, said that the bank employee is fighting vigorously for the conspiracy against him since last 3 decades and through this process still protecting the vital interest of public sector banks and people. Huh.
These are the public sector banks that were providing customer services during the pandemic period. It is also a wake-up call for common people. AITUC Maharashtra President BNJ Sharma, NCBE’s Madhav Pofli, AIBOC’s Rahul Gajbhiye, AIBOA’s Vijay Meshram, INBOC’s Nagesh Dande also addressed the gathering. Jaywant Gurve, General Secretary, EMBEA informed the gathering that the contention of the Government is that Public Sector Banks are not doing well and hence these banks will have to be privatized to ensure better efficiency. We all know the efficiency of private banks, many of which have failed and closed in the past due to mismanagement. On the other hand, all the public sector banks are performing well and earning substantial profits.
About 600 workers joined the demonstration. Chendil Iyer, Vijay Thakur, Dilip Potle, Shrikrishna Chendke, Ashok Shende, Ramesh Chaudhary, Mohammad Imtiaz, Chinmay Kaloti, Harsh Agrawal, Pallavi Varambe, Indira Tadas, Ravi Joshi, NM Rudani, Deep Barve, Mayuresh Ghanghare, Sana Khan, Smita Rangari , Sameer Shende, RP Rao, Sarang Raut, Santosh Raptiwar, Arvind Gadikar, Suresh Wasnik, Sujata Lokade, Sushma Gajbhiye, Vaishali Virutkar, Prakash Mehrolia, Pankaj Abhyankar, Sunil Belkhode, Narendra Bujade, Chand Bawne, Narayan Umredkar, Ritesh Gadekar Pokle Bondre, Nitin Paroche, Manisha Borade, Rupali Pal, Nir Kaur Pal, Snehal Wankhede, Ashwini Sonkusare and many members of EMBEA and UFBU were present.

Due to the strike in the public sector banks, there was a huge crowd in the private sector banks. Business in private sector banks like HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank continued as usual. People took the help of these banks and did their work. People were seen working normally in most of the branches of the private sector. There was a huge crowd of customers but the personnel rendered their services and the crowd was seen performing all banking services from cash withdrawal to deposits, business transactions, loan processing, check clearing, account opening and business transactions.
