Lakhimpur Kheri (Uttar Pradesh), The son of farmer Nachhattar Singh, who was crushed to death by a jeep on October 3 last year in Tikonia village of Lakhimpur Khiri district, slapped MP from the area and Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra ‘Teni’. He has expressed his intention to stand against him during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. On October 3 last year, four farmers, including Nachhatar Singh, were killed in violence during a farmers’ protest in Tikoniya village.
Four others including a journalist were also killed in the incident. In this case, Ashish, son of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra ‘Teni’, has been arrested as the main accused. Jagdeep Singh, son of Nachhatar Singh, a resident of Namdar Purwa village of Dhaurhara area of Lakhimpur, claimed in a conversation with ‘PTI-Bhasha’ that Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress offered him to contest from the Dhaurahra assembly seat of Lakhimpur Kheri. But he declined, saying that he would like to take on Teni directly in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
He said, “SP and Congress insisted that I should contest from Dhaurahra seat on their party ticket, but I told them that I will not fight a petty fight. Give me ticket for Lok Sabha elections in 2024. I’ll fight Tenny straight away. If you fight, you will fight by law. 31-year-old Jagdeep, the eldest of Nachhatar Singh’s two sons, told that no one in his family has a political background. “I am not a supporter of anyone including SP, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Congress.
For the time being, we stand with farmer leader Tejinder Singh Virk in the election. We are fighting the same battle. Wherever he is, we will stand by him.” Jagdeep thanked the opposition parties and said that if there was no opposition, then the Tikoniya incident would have been shown as an accident. He said that if the opposition had not stood up and there was no pressure from the farmers union, no action would have been taken in this matter. “Teni not being removed from the post of Union Minister of State for Home is a big election issue. The government does not want to take the displeasure of Brahmin voters and that is why it is not removing Teni.
Now only the public will calculate it, because the government has stopped listening. Till Teni remains in the post of Minister of State for Home, justice cannot be done to us. When asked about how big an issue is the Tikoniya incident in the context of the assembly elections, Jagdeep said, “Only time will tell, but it is certain that if people do not stand united against this incident in the elections, then it will be The courage of those who have the mindset of crushing the farmers under the jeep will increase further.”
It is worth noting that on October 3 last year, angry farmers were protesting against the visit of Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, who was going to attend a program in Teni’s village, at the same time in Tikoniya village. Eight people, including four Sikh farmers, were killed in the violence. The deceased farmers included Nachhatar Singh of Dhaurhara in the district and Lovepreet Singh, a resident of Palia. The video of the incident had gone viral on social media, in which a speeding jeep was seen trampling farmers. Teni’s son Ashish has been arrested as the main accused in this case. There is a lot of resentment, especially in the Sikh community, over the incident.
