New Delhi: ‘Good Governance Day’ is celebrated in the country on 25 December on the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Let us tell you that this day is celebrated in the honor of the Prime Minister before the year 2014. The day was established to promote awareness among the people of accountability in government. Good Governance Day has been declared as a working day for the government.
History of Good Governance Day
In 2014, the current Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated ’25 December’ every year in the honor of Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee.good governance day‘ The celebration was announced. It is a matter of great honor for the Indian people to celebrate the birthday of Atal Bihari Vajpayee as Good Governance Day. It was announced by the Government of India that on 25th December (Good Governance Day) work will be done all day. However, the announcement coincides with the 25 December Christmas celebration (a gazetted holiday).

Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on whose birthday ‘Good Governance Day’ is celebrated. Atal Bihari Vajpayee was an Indian politician, Hindi poet, journalist and a prolific speaker. He was born on 25 December 1924 in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. Atal Bihari Vajpayee became the Prime Minister of the country thrice. In the year 1996, he became the Prime Minister of the country for the first time. At the same time, he became the Prime Minister of the country for the second time in the year 1998-99 and for the third time on 13 October 1999.
It is noteworthy that former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee is the first leader who gave a speech , in the United Nations. He was awarded the ‘Bharat Ratna Award’ on 27 March 2015. He died on 16 August 2018 at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi after a prolonged illness. He remained active in Indian politics throughout his life.
