There is a perception in the minds of the common people that there are coins of many sizes and colors of ten rupees in the market, in which all are not real i.e. legal tender. However, the Central Government has made it clear in a written reply to a question in Parliament that these coins are in circulation by the Central RBI in various themes, sizes and designs and are legal tender. They can be used as legal tender for all types of transactions.

In writing, the Union Minister of State for Finance gave a reply in the Rajya Sabha
Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Choudhary said in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday (February 8, 2022) that coins in all types of currency of ten rupees are legal tender. He had answered the question whether people in many parts of the country are not accepting some coins of Rs 10 as fake? Apart from this, he was asked whether the government would take necessary steps to make a legal tender of Rs 10 coin? Chaudhary said that from time to time there have been complaints about non-acceptance of coins of Rs 10, but these are legal tender. Chowdhary informed in the Parliament that specific details of complaint against any shopkeeper for not accepting Rs 10 coin is not available.

The Union Minister of State for Finance informed that to spread awareness. RBI issues press releases from time to time to eliminate misconceptions about the 10 rupee coin and to remove fear from the minds of common people. In this, people are urged to accept the ten rupee coin without any hesitation. Apart from this, RBI also makes common people aware by sending SMS to people across the country and through campaigns in print media.
