The youth of Jammu and Kashmir are aspirational and want to move ahead with the mainstream of India, Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Personnel and PMO said this in an exclusive interview with News18. Singh, the MP from Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur, said this sentiment was reflected in Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent statement that he would prefer to talk to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir rather than talking to Pakistan.
Singh said militancy in Jammu and Kashmir is in its final stages as security forces are eliminating terrorists very fast. He said that the fleeing terrorists are trying to register their presence by harming the civilians. He said that within a few months of coming under the radar of the security forces, the terrorists are now neutralised.
Jammu and Kashmir: Cases of bomb attacks and murders increased compared to last year, know what government figures tell
Explaining the roadmap for India’s new union territory, Singh also dismissed the opposition’s objection to the delimitation, which would be followed by elections and eventually statehood.
Home Minister Amit Shah, in his recent visit to Jammu and Kashmir, said that he would like to talk to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir instead of talking to Pakistan.
Amit Shah’s statement goes with the policy of reaching out to the general public and especially the youth in Jammu and Kashmir. Most of the population is youth. This is the right and practical approach. The youth of Jammu and Kashmir really want to move forward. He may be holding himself back or withdrawing because of the fear that these occasional incidents of violence still persist.
So the door to talks with Pakistan is completely closed?
Any decision will be taken from the government side only after seeing the situation on this matter. So I will not comment much on this.
How do you see the recent incidents of attacks on civilians in J&K? Is the government worried?
Sometimes such incidents are happening as terrorists are on the run and trying to mark their presence by targeting soft targets. Militancy is very much under control.
First of all, if you look at the statistics and compare the figures of earlier years, especially before 2014, a lot has changed now. This is the last phase of militancy and terrorists are on the run.
So do you think the youth of Jammu and Kashmir is with you now?
Most importantly, the mindset of the common man, especially the youth, is that now they want to move forward. Now, they are very clear that their future lies with the mainstream of India led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and they do not want to miss this opportunity as they are aspiring youth.
