The whirlwind week had ended with a thud for Rachael Rollins.
The once-rising star of the progressive ranks has resigned as U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts, the workplace introduced.
The press launch states: “Rachael S. Rollins resigned at the moment as United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts. In accordance with the Federal Vacancies Reform Act, First Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua S. Levy has assumed the function of Acting U.S. Attorney.
“Mr. Levy joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office with over 25 years of legal experience and has served as First Assistant United States Attorney since January 2022. Mr. Levy was an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Massachusetts, from 1997 to 2004, serving in the Criminal Division’s Economic Crimes Unit. There, he prosecuted a wide range of white-collar crimes including health care fraud, securities and investor fraud, terrorism financing and environmental crimes.”
It all began in July when a Herald reporter requested Rollins if it was a violation of the Hatch Act to maintain strolling right into a DNC fundraiser in Andover to see First Lady Jill Biden.
Rollins advised the Herald: “No.”
The DOJ, her former employer, has disagreed.
Rollins wrote in her resignation letter to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland that’s was an “honor” to serve — even when for a short while.
The letter, shared with the Herald, states: “This letter is to advise you that I’m resigning from my place as United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts, efficient on the shut of enterprise at the moment. Thank you for the dignity of nominating me for that place in July 2021 and supporting me throughout my contentious affirmation course of.
I want you and your Administration the very best of luck within the months and years forward.”
On Dec. 8, 2021, Vice President Kamala Harris solid a tie-breaking vote for Senate affirmation of Rollins’ appointment.
