The American flag is flying proudly once more in its entirety over on the mayor’s Parkman House on Beacon Hill, after town was referred to as out for not changing one which had been left in tatters there for days, if not longer.
It’s unclear when the ripped flag noticed by an aghast reader was changed, however a brand new flag was waving on the city-owned mansion on Monday, a day after the poor therapy of Old Glory was highlighted within the Herald’s “Pols & Politics” column.
“I think it’s important, especially for the veterans office, to make sure that those flags are always in good shape,” Tony Molina, president of the Puerto Rican Veterans Monument Square Association and a Purple Heart veteran, advised the Herald.
“It’s disrespectful to veterans to have flags like that flying,” he stated.
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu’s workplace didn’t instantly reply to a request for remark about whether or not the flag had been changed — a Herald photographer made the commentary — or why it was left in tatters within the first place.
Public Law 94-344, also called the Federal Flag Code, states: “The flag should never be fastened, displayed, used, or stored in such a manner as to permit it to be easily torn, soiled or damaged in any way.”
