On this day, terrorists in Europe’s small country in Belgium (Belgium) shook with bomb blasts that its echo resonates in the ears of every Belgian till date. The headquarters of NATO and the European Union are located in Belgium. For this reason, the terrorists had to show up here and show that they can challenge these two alliances. 35 people died in these blasts at Brussels Airport and Malbiq Metro Station.
The terror cell terrorists who attacked Paris in November 2015 now cast their nefarious eyes on Belgium. On the morning of 22 March 2016, Belgium was rocked by three suicide bombings. Two of these occurred at Brussels Airport in Javantham and one at Maalbeek metro station in central Brussels. 32 ordinary civilians were killed in this attack, while the three terrorists who carried out these attacks also fell asleep. On the other hand, a bomb was also found at the airport, but it was defused in time. The dreaded terrorist organization Islamic State claimed responsibility for these attacks.
Why did the terrorists target Belgium?
During the Iraqi civil war, the Belgian army also opened a front against the terrorists. In 2014, while ISIS was rapidly consolidating its hold on Iraq and Syria, Belgium dropped bombs on one of its hideouts in eastern Baghdad. In such a situation, the dreaded leader of ISIS, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, warned that the countries that bombed the terrorist organization’s bases. Those countries will be retaliated.
Bombed people engaged in check-in-cry
Two ISIS militants arrived at the Brussels Airport’s Departure Hall with explosives in a large suitcase. On arriving here, both the terrorists entered into the check-in-cry. The first explosion occurred at check-in-row 11 at 7.58 in the morning. A few seconds later, there was a tremendous explosion in Check-in-Row 2 as well. People involved in the lines became casualties due to this blast. At the same time, when the second explosion occurred, a terrorist was injured in it. This terrorist had arrived here for a third blast, but due to being injured, he could not carry out his nefarious plans. The security forces later recovered a live bomb from the airport.
Bombed the train
The whole country had heard the echo of the bomb blasts at the airport. These attackers were seen in CCTV footage, which was soon aired on TV. In such a situation, people were troubled to see innocent people killed before their eyes. An atmosphere of chaos was created in the whole country. The country was not yet overcome with two blasts that about an hour later, a tremendous explosion occurred at Malbik metro station in Central Brussels at 9.11 am. This metro station is located near the headquarters of the European Commission.
The train was heading towards the city center, during which a tremendous explosion took place within it. On the other hand, the driver stopped the train midway and started helping the passengers get out. After this blast, a large number of security forces reached the metro station and it was closed to the general public. In all, 35 people died and more than 300 people were badly injured in this attack in Brussels.
Belgium’s most dreaded terrorist attack in history
Police and relief teams picked up 17 corpses from Brussels Airport and 14 from the metro station. The bodies of the terrorists were also included in this. At the same time, four people of the injured died during treatment in the hospital. More than 80 people were injured in the blast at the airport. These bombings are counted among the most horrific terrorist attacks in Belgian history. After the attack, the Belgian government declared national mourning for three days.
