New Delhi: Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain informed the Assembly on Monday that there is no shortage of medical personnel in government hospitals and clinics. Jain’s statement comes at a time when the national capital has been witnessing an increase in the number of coronavirus cases for the past few days. He said this in response to a question by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and MLA OP Sharma.
Jain said that there is no dearth of doctors, nurses, paramedics and non-medical staff in dispensaries, hospitals and clinics. The government has also released the list of vacant posts. The minister said that the government is taking steps for recruitment to these posts. The government was also questioned about the steps being taken to fill the vacant posts.

The government informed the assembly that it has sent letters to the Union Public Service Commission and the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board seeking to fill up the vacant posts. According to government data, there are 1,236 sanctioned posts of specialists in state-run medical facilities and out of these 932 posts have been appointed as regular employees and 43 posts are for contract employees while 261 posts are lying vacant.
There are 1,357 sanctioned posts of ‘General Duty Medical Officers’ (GDMO), out of which 1,219 posts have been filled, while 44 posts are for contractual employees. 84 posts of GDMO are lying vacant. (agency)
