International Women’s Day is celebrated every year on 8 March all over the world. The main objective of celebrating this day is to promote the rights of women. It is said that what a woman cannot do if she wants, she is a mother, homemaker, businesswoman, teacher, doctor, engineer, police, what is not. Women’s Day salutes this spirit of women.
The day celebrates the success, perseverance, empowerment and achievements of women at the international level. History
If we look at history, women did not have the rights and resources that men had and which women should also have. Their working hours were long, they were paid very little according to the work and they did not even have the right to vote. In 1908, there was a debate among women on this discrimination and oppression, and finally, about 15,000 women took out a rally on the streets of New York, raising their voice. In 1910, there was a conference in Copenhagen regarding working women.

In 1911, the leader of the Social Democratic Party of Germany, Clara Zetkin, proposed International Women’s Day and celebrated it on 19 March. At the same time, in 1913-1914, the first Women’s Day was celebrated in Russia on 23 February and later it was declared to be celebrated on 8 March globally. Celebrating Women’s Day in the United Nations was started in 1975.

Even though today all the countries of the world and our society are more aware, but the fight for the rights and rights of women is still going on. In many cases women have not got equal respect and rights even today. International Women’s Day is celebrated every year with the aim of making the society aware of these rights and respect of women.

The theme of 2021 Women’s Day was ‘Women Leadership: Achieving a Common Future in the World of COVID-19’. The theme of International Women’s Day 2022 is ‘Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow’ i.e. ‘Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow’. On the other hand, the colors of Women’s Day are purple, green and white. Purple color symbolizes justice and dignity. Green is a symbol of hope and white is a symbol of purity.
