- Eligible 850 couples are waiting for grant
Nagpur. An incentive grant of 50 thousand rupees is given to promote inter-caste marriage, but due to Corona, the grant was stuck for the last two years. As a result, more than 850 couples were deprived of the grant, but now the Social Welfare Department of the Zilla Parishad has received a grant of Rs 3 crore 19 lakh from the government. Now soon these eligible beneficiaries will be able to get the grant.
To establish social equality in the society, the government gives a grant of Rs 50,000 to those who do inter-caste marriages. For this purpose, 50 percent funds are provided by the central government and the state government. Every year about 450 couples submit applications to the social welfare department of the Zilla Parishad, but many times due to lack of funds from the government, many people have to wait for the incentive grant. Because sometimes they get very less amount from the government.
The department had benefited 376 couples in the year 2019-20. In 2020-21, 472 couples were benefitted. Since then more than 850 couples are waiting for grant from the department but now the department has received Rs. 3 crore 19 lakh from the government for the grant of these couples. Out of this, 638 couples will be given a grant at the rate of Rs 50,000 per couple.
The Zilla Parishad said that the remaining couples would be given benefits as soon as funds become available. Chief Executive Officer Dr. Kamal Kishor Futane said that the grant has been received from the government. According to the rules, the process of making available funds to the eligible beneficiaries will be started.
