Foreign tourists have stopped coming to the country for almost one and a half years. According to the report of news agency PTI, officials have said that to revive the tourism, hospitality industry and aviation sector in the country, first five lakh foreign tourists will be issued free visas. The Indian economy was badly affected by the lockdown imposed in March 2020 due to the Corona epidemic.
Top officials of the Union Home Ministry are in talks with stakeholders regarding the possible date and modalities for allowing foreign tourists to enter the country. A formal announcement about this is expected within the next 10 days. The cases of COVID-19 are continuously decreasing in the country, due to which this decision is being taken. On Sunday, 30,773 new cases of COVID were registered in India, while the number of active cases is 3.32 lakh. On Saturday, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage also crossed 80 crores.

five lakh free visa
Free visas to tourists will be issued till March 31, 2022 or till the issuance of five lakh visas, whichever is earlier. According to PTI, the official said, “The decision to grant free visas is expected to encourage tourists visiting India. The cost of a one-month e-tourist visa varies from country to country, with an average cost of around $25. The charge for a one-year multiple entry e-tourist visa is around $40. E-tourist visa is not being issued since March 2020 due to Corona pandemic.

Officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs have further said that tourists will be allowed to enter the country with certain conditions like vaccination. Another official said that this work of allowing foreign tourists to come to India will be done in a phased manner. India is one of the many countries that have started opening their doors to tourists.
