Income Tax Department: The raids started by the Income Tax Department on perfume traders in Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh have now reached Noida. The surprising thing is that this time it is not a business, but a 1983 batch IPS officer of the UP cadre. The officials have found cash worth Rs 5.8 crore kept in several private lockers with him, which is being said to be undeclared.
Found more than 650 lockers
Officials raided the office of Mansam Company in Sector 50’s A block of Noida and more than 650 lockers in the basement were given on rent. A senior official said the company opened in 2017, the year Singh retired. According to a Times of India report, the company had 700 private lockers, most of which were empty. Cash and some documents were found in 18-20 lockers.

The company is in the name of the wife of former IPS
“Undisclosed cash amounting to Rs 5.8 crore has been received so far. This was in Rs 2,000 and Rs 500 notes. We have started investigation to see if this cash is a benami property.”
The company was registered in the name of the wife of the former IPS officer. The couple’s son is the custodian of the lockers. “We are trying to find out whether the owners of the lockers had any links with politicians or whether the money was being given to candidates to contest elections in the state,” the IT official said.

Is the raid related to the election?
According to a report by NBT, the raiding team has marked, cut or opened about 10 lockers whose owner’s name or address was not clear. The count of cash withdrawn from them till evening has exceeded 5 crores. Cash recovery can be gauged from the fact that the machines are also hanging due to continuous counting.
According to another report of NBT, black money of about Rs 2.5 crore has been received since January 15. The Income Tax Department has made many arrangements to stop the use of black money in elections. A control room has been set up in Lucknow with a toll free number 18001807540, which is operational 24×7.
