For the first time in the history of the European country Switzerland, women who have joined the army have been given great relief. Female soldiers in the Swiss Army will no longer have to wear men’s underwear. Earlier, women soldiers had to work in men’s underwear. This decision has been taken by the government to increase the participation of women in the army.
The British media house BBC, citing local media reports, said that women soldiers in the Swiss Army have now been allowed to wear women’s underwear. According to the current regime of the Swiss Army, the military uniform of the country includes only men’s clothing. Marian Binder, a member of the Swiss National Council, said that military uniforms are designed for men, but if the military really wants to increase women’s participation, then they need to take appropriate measures. He said, the inclusion of women’s clothing in the army will encourage them.
This change will happen for women soldiers
The Swiss military has so far been giving loose-fitting men’s underwear to female soldiers. These underwear are very troublesome for women soldiers. Army Spokesperson Kaj-Gunnar Siewert said that the upcoming changes would include ‘short underwear’ in the summer season and ‘long underwear’ in the winter season. She underlined that the present clothes have become too old for women soldiers.
Aim to include 10% women soldiers in the army in 20 years
At present, one percent of women in the Swiss Army are women. Switzerland has set a target that it will increase the participation of women in the country’s military to 10 percent in the coming 20 years. The country’s defense minister has praised the government’s move. Defense Minister Viola Amhard said that this would ensure women’s participation. From 2004 onwards, women and men soldiers have to do the same duty in Switzerland.
