The government has become concerned about the increasing sexual harassment and rape cases in Pakistan. On this, the government announced to set up an ‘Anti-rape Crisis Cell’ in every district of the country on Saturday. The Imran government was constantly facing criticism over the increasing cases of rape in the country. The Law Ministry issued a notification to set up a 42-member anti-rape Ordinance Implementation Committee to monitor the establishment of these cells.
This committee will be headed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MP Malaika Bukhari. It will include representatives from the Ministry of Human Rights, Health, Home Affairs of Pakistan. Apart from this, the National Database Registration Authority (NDRA) and the provincial forensic agencies have also been made part of the committee. At the district level, the cell will be headed by a local deputy commissioner and their aim will be to help victims of rape and sexual harassment. The objective of the ‘Anti-rape Crisis Cell’ is to help the victim by registering FIR, medical test, forensic analysis and other related issues immediately.
Last year, two laws were introduced regarding rape
Pakistan introduced the ‘Anti-Rape (Investigation and Trial) Ordinance 2020’ and ‘Criminal Law (Amendment) Ordinance’ last year. In fact, the inhuman incident of rape in the country with a mother of two children was carried out in September 2020. On the way to Lahore, the victim’s car broke down and the accused took advantage of it and cheered him. After this, the pressure on the government increased and the government introduced these laws. Apart from this law, the government took other measures to help the victims.
Accused in Lahore rape case, sentenced to death
This notification has been issued by the government at a time when two people have been found guilty in the Lahore rape case a few weeks ago. These people have been sentenced to death with life imprisonment and a fine of 50 thousand. In Pakistan, the government always has to face criticism for misdeeds. Due to this, the government has to take concrete steps. In recent times, there has also been an increase in cases of rape with young girls.
