IC-814 Hijacking: More than two decades after the hijacking of Indian Airlines flight IC-814, the family of victim Rupin Katyal has finally got justice. According to media reports, hijacker Mistry Zahoor Ibrahim alias Jamali has been shot by unidentified gunmen in Karachi, Pakistan.
Zahoor was part of the team of five terrorists who hijacked the IC-814 aircraft. Zahoor went underground in the year 1999 after the plane hijacking incident. Of the five Jaish-e-Mohammed hijackers in Pakistan, only two are alive now. According to anti-terrorism experts, only terrorists Ibrahim Azhar and Shahid Akhtar Saeed are alive in Pakistan.
Rupin Katyal was brutally murdered
On December 25, 1999, a 25-year-old Rupin Katyal was brutally murdered by Mistry Zahoor and his body was recovered from a hijacked plane in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). That fateful day he was returning to Delhi with his wife after their honeymoon in Kathmandu.
Egyptian killed in Karachi
News 9, quoting Pakistani intelligence sources, has claimed that the Egyptian Zahoor was killed in Karachi city on March 1. It has also been told in the report that he was living in Karachi for the last several years under the new identity of Zahid Akhund. Zahoor Mistry was also running a showroom named Crescent Furniture in Akhtar Colony in Karachi.

News 9 has also claimed that top leadership of Jaish-e-Mohammed including Ouf Asghar, which is headquartered in Bahawalpur in Pakistan’s Punjab province, attended the funeral of Mistry Zahoor. Rauf Asghar is the operational chief of Jaish and brother of its leader Masood Azhar.
Terrorist involved in hijacking of IC-814 aircraft
Ibrahim was involved in the hijacking of the Indian Airlines IC-814 aircraft, which was hijacked on December 24, 1999, from Nepal by five Pakistani hijackers. Indian Airlines’ IC-814 aircraft was hijacked from Nepal on 24 December 1999. The hijackers forced the pilot to take the plane to Kandahar, Afghanistan. Jaish terrorists had made a deal for the lives of 178 passengers in exchange for the release of three terrorists.
India had released many terrorists
The Indian aircraft was flown to Amritsar, Lahore and Dubai before landing in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Afghanistan was then controlled by the Taliban. He fully helped and provided security to Pakistani terrorists. To end this hostage crisis that continued for almost a week, India had to release dreaded terrorists like Masood Azhar, Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh and Mushtaq Ahmed Zargar.
