Madurai: A bench of the Madras High Court on Monday directed to hand over the investigation related to the suicide case of a 17-year-old girl to the CBI. It is alleged that the student was allegedly forced to convert to Christianity by converting. Justice GR Swaminathan, during the hearing of the case, ordered the transfer of the investigation in view of the submissions of the petitioner, the girl’s father and the school management.
It has been said in the order that it is the duty of the court to provide posthumous justice to the girl student, but from the situation so far it seems that the investigation is not progressing in the right direction. Justice Swaminathan said, “I direct the Director of CBI, New Delhi to appoint an officer to take over the investigation from the State Police. The CBI will conduct an independent investigation and will not take into account any comments made in this order.”

A 17-year-old student of Missionary School in Thanjavur, a resident of Ariyalur district, had allegedly committed suicide a few days back. The student, who was staying in the hostel, was allegedly forced to convert to Christianity by converting. A video in this regard also went viral. However, the school management has dismissed the allegations and blamed the self-seeking elements in the matter. The victim’s father had earlier demanded a CB-CID in this case, but during the final hearing, he demanded a CBI inquiry.
The judge said that the superintendent of police conducted a press conference that on the basis of preliminary investigation, the police had rejected the aspect of conversion. The judge said that the efforts of the police in carrying out the investigation appeared to be largely in vain. In view of this, the girl’s father filed a petition for transfer of the investigation. In her statement before the police and the judicial magistrate, the student has directly and categorically accused the hostel warden of giving her non-educational work. The girl had consumed poisonous insecticide. After this the accused warden Sister Saghayameri was arrested and sent to judicial custody.
The counsel appearing for the petitioner said that apart from the Education Minister, two more ministers have expressed similar views in this matter, almost denying the possibility of conversion. The judge said that the education department has also issued a statement acquitting the school management from the charges of conversion.
