Due to the heavy rain, the Boston Public Health Commission despatched out a public well being warning about sewage discharges — also called a mixed sewer overflows — within the Charles River and Boston Harbor.

“The public is advised to avoid contact with affected water bodies for at least 48 hours after a sewage discharge or overflow, during rainstorms, and for 48 hours after rainstorms end, due to increased health risks from bacteria or other pollutants associated with urban stormwater runoff and discharges of untreated or partially treated wastewater,” the general public well being warning states.
“A combined sewer overflow occurs when a large storm overwhelms the combined sewerage system causing rainwater to mix with wastewater and discharge to a nearby water body,” the warning provides. “This prevents sewage backups into homes and businesses.”
The highest wind gusts through the storm have been reported alongside Cape Cod: 69 mph recorded on Scusset Beach in Sagamore, 65 mph in Chatham and Dennis, and 64 mph in Wellfleet.
There have been a number of studies of wind harm alongside the coast. Trees have been toppled and energy traces have been down.
