Nagpur. A cement road is being constructed from Deekshabhoomi Chowk to Alankar Chowk (VIP). Alleging that its quality is of low quality and corruption was committed by the contractor in it, the National Convener of Rajiv Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sangathan, Mr. Under the leadership of Akshay Samarth, a delegation of local people met Ram Joshi, Additional Commissioner of Municipal Corporation. The delegation, after conducting a thorough investigation of this cement road construction, demanded strict action against the contractor if found guilty. Along with this, there was also a demand for non-payment of the works being done by the contractor.
The people of Kachipura and Ramdaspeth in the delegation include Ramprasad Chaudhary, Moolchand Baisware, Ravindra Bhave, Sohan Kokode, Rajesh Shakya, Omkar Shende, Shubham Khavshi, Addl. Ashwina Sherkure etc. During the discussion, he said that before the construction of the road, scrapping should have been done as per the rules, whereas only 2-3 inches have been scraped. On which the contractor was warned by registering an objection on behalf of the local people at the same time.
Use of poor quality raw material
During the discussion, he said that due to lack of excavation before the construction of cement road, now the height of the road has become more and the surrounding space has become lower. Apart from this, the way iron should have been used, it was not done. Due to the use of substandard raw material, now the top surface of the cement road has become rough. After its manufacture it is necessary to water it well, while the curries were not prepared for curing. Water was given only by laying sacks on the cement road.
Construction was to be completed in 15 months
He said that as per the work order given to the contractor, the construction should have been done in 15 months, but despite the passage of 45 months, the road work has not been completed. Due to incomplete work at places, the drivers are facing problems every day. The work is started by the contractor for some days and remains closed for some days. Accidents are happening many times due to keeping the Gattu in the middle of the road. Barricading is necessary in the part of the road where construction is to be done. But neither barricades nor security guards have been deployed. Under the Right to Information, information about this entire work was sought from the Municipal Corporation but the information was not given.
File sent for bill payment
super. Samarth said that the matter was first questioned in the zone. The officers became alert when information was sought under RTI. Due to the nexus with the contractor, the officials immediately sent the file to the Finance Department for payment of the running bill. After taking the information in RTI, due to the apprehension of the officials raising objections about the road, the file was sent for payment in a hurry. Therefore, first of all, there was a demand to check the quality of cement road construction, to take action against the contractor if there is negligence in the work.
