BMC advises people to avoid heatstroke
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has appealed to the common citizens to stay safe and not allow dehydration to occur in the body and avoid stepping out in the afternoon in view of the scorching heatwave conditions in Mumbai and neighboring districts. The BMC said that the person suffering from heatstroke should be immediately taken to the hospital. It also advised people to increase their intake of water and other hygienic fluids.
In the wake of the IMD’s warning, the Mumbai civic body took to Twitter to inform citizens about the ‘dos and don’ts’ and asked them to drink plenty of water and stay safe. The BMC also asked people to avoid stepping out in the sun, especially between 12 noon to 3 pm, to reduce the effect of heatwave and prevent the possibility of serious illness or death due to heat wave.
The BMC suggested people to carry water while going out in the afternoon. The BMC said to drink enough water and drink as often as possible, even when you are not thirsty. It also asked people to avoid tea, coffee, soft drinks, high protein and stale food and suggested that people use hats or umbrellas and moisturise the head, neck, face and exposed limbs if they work outside. Use clothes.
The BMC also asked people to take ORS (oral rehydration salt) and homemade drinks like lassi, torani (rice water), lemonade and buttermilk, which help in replenishing the water loss in the body. It says to use a fan and take frequent baths with cold water.
