The Healey Administration has introduced its Secretary of Transportation will step down within the subsequent two weeks.
Gina Fiandaca, previously the Boston City Parking Clerk, was tapped by Gov. Maura Healey to steer the Department of Transportation and oversee the beleaguered MBTA in December, forward of Healey’s swearing in.
“Transportation Secretary Gina Fiandaca will be stepping down from her position effective September 11, 2023 and will remain in an advising role through the end of the year to support a smooth transition,” Healey’s workplace mentioned in a Monday launch.
Fiandaca makes an annual wage of $181,722, in accordance with state payroll data.
Fiandaca got here to the job after serving as Assistant City Manager in Austin, Texas. Though the governor didn’t supply a purpose for her leaving, Fiandaca’s sudden departure comes following revelations in May that MassDOT had awarded a no-bid contract value $900,000 to an organization affiliated with a private affiliate of hers.
The soon-to-be former Secretary of Transportation thanked Healey for the chance.
“I will be stepping down as the Secretary of the Department of Transportation effective September 11th. I want to thank Governor Healey for the honor and privilege of leading MassDOT during this transformative time in transportation. I am grateful for the trust Governor Healey placed in me that led to significant progress in virtually every facet of transportation in the Commonwealth,” she mentioned in a press release.
