We often see soldiers fighting along the border in an attempt to capture each other’s country. But a peculiar case has emerged between Belgium and France. Here a farmer has changed the boundaries of both the countries. This Belgian farmer has ‘reduced’ France by taking a decision. (Belgian Farmer moves French border accidentally)
Actually, this farmer inadvertently altered the border of both the countries. Later, a history expert wandered in the forest and notices that the stones that tell the border of the two countries have been tampered with. According to a BBC news, he found that the stone, which borders the border between France and Belgium, has slipped 2.29 meters, or 7.5 feet, from its place. Because of this, the area of France became smaller.
Because of this decision
It is believed that this Belgian farmer took this decision because this stone came in the way of his tractor. For this reason, he often fretted over this stone and one day he removed it from his path. However, this decision of the farmer has now become the headlines.
Smile instead of controversy
Often a border dispute takes a violent or tense form. But instead of controversy here, only the faces of the officials of both the countries are seeing a smile. This case did not become an issue of international controversy. David Lavaux, the mayor of the village of Erkelines, Belgium, jokingly told local channels, “That farmer has made Belgium big and France small.” However, this idea is not good. He believes that such steps often create a quarrel between two people, then it is a matter of two countries.
620 km border between France and Belgium
There is a border of about 620 km between the two countries. This limit was set in 1820 after Napoleon’s defeat at Waterloo. The stone which the farmer has removed, was established in 1819. The Mayor of Belgium laughed saying that he was happy because his city had grown up. But the French mayor disagrees. The Mayor of France, Velonc, also commented laughably on this. He said, “We will survive a border war.”
Now what next
Belgian government officials will ask the farmer to place the stone again in the same place. But if he does not do so, then action can also be taken against him. Apart from this, the matter can go to the Belgian Foreign Ministry and where the Franco-Belgian Border Commission can be summoned since 1930.
