Panaji: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will win over 22 seats in the 40-member state assembly. Sawant said if his party forms the government in the coastal state, he will continue to hold the top post. Voting for the 40 seats of Goa Legislative Assembly began on Monday morning. 301 candidates are trying their luck in the election.
In the one-phase election in the coastal state, polling began at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm, election officials said. Till 9 am, 11.4% polling was recorded in the state. After casting his vote at a polling booth in Sankhalim constituency in North Goa district, Sawant said Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to him over phone and wished him all the best for the assembly polls. Sawant, who is contesting from Sankhalim constituency, told PTI, “The Prime Minister called me at around 7 am to extend his blessings and best wishes to me and all BJP workers on the day of polling.”
